After publishing two color photobooks
about Iceland (Lights of Iceland
in 2011 and Colors of Iceland
in 2024), I wanted to see what remained of Icelandic
landscapes when the color was removed. Well, to
my surprise, the essentials remained: earth, water,
air and fire.
These four omnipresent elements give texture to
the photos, while the black and white contributes
to the dramatic atmosphere and the island's unique
ambiance. Humans, for their part, brought two
additional elements: wood and metal. This is why
I subtitled the book: Elemental Iceland. This
will probably be the title of a future exhibition.
For this first foray into the world of black and
white, I have chosen to present 107 artistic photographs
of Iceland around the theme of the elements in
a 92-page art book published on Blurb : ICELAND
IN BLACK AND WHITE - Photos by France Demarbaix.

Here is a preview. If your browser doesn't display anything below, go directly to the Blurb website.
Photo captions in English help
identify the locations. You can refer to the Iceland
travel guide in French for more explanations.
The book is an ode to the wild beauty of this
island lost in the North Atlantic, its landscapes
with rough textures enveloped by an unusual atmosphere
of vapors and clouds. Iceland leaves a lasting
mark on the souls of travelers.
In this age of frantic consumption of images on
the internet, take the time to sit down and truly
admire the beauty of this original land. Give
yourself a gift by putting this book on your bookshelf
and consult its pages as much as you like to dream
and escape!
The book is available in 25 x
20 cm landscape format with softcover or hardcover.
Out of respect for the planet, it is only printed
when you order it. That's why you won't find it
in bookstores but only in the Blurb bookstore.
It also exists a french
version of the book and a smaller
version in english with slightly warmer tones.
Quick tip: Blurb regularly offers discounts of
15 to 25% off the price of books in the bookstore.
